We received this report in May 2014, but the experience described occurred a few years past. This type of experience with a family pet is actually not uncommon at all and for many as this experient describes provides a comfort at an otherwise sad time.

"Hope you don't think this is silly. My dog , Louis, was hit by a car right in front of my house. One or two days later, I was standing in my living room, looking at the marks he left in the fresh snow as he started to dash across the street after another dog. I was feeling bereft and very sad. Then, and I swear this was palpable, I could feel Louis in the room with me, just about chest height. I put my arms out, and it was like he leapt right into them. I could feel his weight on my chest and on my arms. The sensation lasted about three or four seconds, then was gone. I was left feeling very much at peace. I "knew" he'd come to say goodbye. I'm a retired English professor, rational, very sane, not given to flights of imagination. I  have also never experienced anything like this before or since."
