The Richard Syrett Show has been canceled by CFRB Newstalk 1010. CFRB is owned by Canadian media giant ASTRAL MEDIA.

Press Release:

MONTREAL — "Astral Media Inc. says it has reorganized some of its English-language radio operations across Canada and shed 23 employees.

The Montreal-based company, Canada's largest radio and pay-TV operator, said the jobs will not be replaced. It said the job losses were at all levels of the company.

Astral has 82 radio stations across Canada.

"The company is confident that this reorganization will allow the radio group to continue to enhance its competitive position, and to remain the most important radio reference in Canada," Astral said in a release Tuesday.

Last week, Astral said it has outperformed its industry rivals in the fall months but has begun to feel the effects of a softening Canadian economy.

Its profit in the first quarter ended Nov. 30 rose to $42.4 million, up from a year-earlier $37.5-million profit.

Revenues rose 24 per cent to $244.5 million after its acquisition of Standard Radio in October 2007.

Its radio division experienced revenue growth of 87 per cent in the quarter.

The company also has a television division, which recently launched HBO Canada and French-language specialty channel Teletoon Retro, as well as an outdoor advertising division.

Astral employs about 2,800 people at its various divisions."

According to supporters: This program cancellation is not about the economy, it is about those who seek to control truth and awareness. Despite solid ratings of the Richard Syrett Show it has become a casualty of that control.
