Hello. My name is Ed Butts. I am a writer living in Guelph, Ontario. I have had several books published, including Running With Dillinger, SOS: Stories of Survival, Line of Fire: Heroism, Tragedy and Canada’s Police, and Henry Hudson: New World Voyager. Dundurn Press of Toronto has asked me to do a book of Newfoundland & Labrador ghost stories. They would like this book to include traditional ghost stories, as well as personal accounts from people who have had paranormal experiences, or Old Hag experiences. This letter, therefore, is an invitation to people in Newfoundland and Labrador to share their stories with me; and also to people in other places who are from NL or who have lived there. The one basic requirement is that the incident must have an NL connection.

I personally have never had a paranormal experience, but I do know several people – some of them family members – who say they have. I think I can say that I am open-minded about the subject, so any submissions will be respectfully received. I would like to hear from anybody who has experienced anything to do with “hauntings”, forerunners, unusual sightings, (not UFOs, please: that’s another topic), poltergeists, or anything else that might be considered “spooky”. Or if you know an interesting local ghost or haunting story, I’d like to hear from you. If I can use your story in the book, I will, although depending on the volume of the response I get, I can’t say I will be able to use all of them. I will include your name if you wish, but should you wish to remain anonymous, that’s okay, too. Just let me know where you live, so I can include the name of the town or region. Please send me your story by email or post. Time is a factor, as I must have the chapters in to the publisher by April 30 2010.

I thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter, and I look forward to receiving your stories.

Yours
Ed Butts
