What PSICAN expects from you...

Since PSICAN and it's groups have done their best to maintain a reputation for excellence, before going any further, we need you to agree to the following points...

#1: The safety, security, and comfort of witnesses or those helping us with our study must always come first.

We have always believed that reports and experiences reported to us belong to the witnesses... not to us. They have been kind enough to tell us about them, give them to us to examine, and possibly write up our own findings. We do "own" what we do, but we do not "own" an exclusive right to a witness' experience.

On top of that, it does take a certain amount of bravery to come forward and explain a situation that some people (like the "so-called sceptics") would mock or make fun of a person for presenting. We do promise to respect property, privacy, and persons when doing what we do. Discretion and ensuring a witness has all the comfort we can offer is paramount in our work.

#2: All our groups are non-profit and do not charge fees for information or investigations.

This is to say that when someone comes to us for help or just to read or hear about something, it should be free and never with any charges attached. Our "work" is not to have a price-tag attached to it.

That said, we have "softened" our stance for investigators who wish to write books, market "swag" (like shirts and the like,) and otherwise do some things to bring in a touch of income... but these things must be "in moderation" and a tangible thing in nature (not "psychical services") and the study and information must be a main focus of our efforts... and for this, no fees (for investigations and online information) must ever be involved.

#3: We must remain agnostic and open to opposing ideas, thoughts, and concepts.

Again, a PSICAN investigator must be able to try and put aside personal beliefs and faiths and work strictly from the neutral standpoint... and they must make clear when anything is moving from "fact" to "supposition" or "statement based on faith without empirical data".

Presentation of any data must (aside from taking any witness or site-manager/owner/tenant point of view to ensure safety, privacy, and security if desired,) be open to scrutiny and alternative viewpoints. This is not to say that should someone put forward a "viewpoint" that it must be published or your efforts "updated" unless the person brings relevant empirical data to the argument, but you should acknowledge and try to understand the alternative point of view presented.

#4: No PSICAN investigator or group will ever knowingly break any Canadian civil laws in the pursuit of the study.

Quite simple.

#5: PSICAN Investigators and Researchers are expected to be respectful of any witness, site-owner/manager/tenant at any site they have been allowed to work on.

Again, simple courtesy, but it needs to be said.

#6: If proven (by empirical and undeniable evidence,) to be wrong, misled, or otherwise incorrect on a concept, a PSICAN investigator and/or researcher will admit fault and do necessary corrections and if needed, apologies.

Too many people are unwavering in their faith and belief that they will not admit mistakes... we never wish to be that way as we too are students trying to learn about things that are currently "unknown".

#7: Individual PSICAN investigators and researchers are responsible for themselves and their own actions... Leaders or heads of affiliated PSICAN groups are responsible for their entire group's behaviour and well being on investigations and cases.

Although PSICAN will do what we can to screen things for our members, ultimately decisions must be made at the individual or "team leader" level.

#8: All PSICAN investigators/researchers should be both legal adults in their respective provinces, Canadian citizens or landed immigrants based in Canada, and be bondable if necessary.

Misrepresentation of the above will lead to losing PSICAN affiliate or member status as soon as possible.

#9: If you are caught knowingly or willfully hoaxing or manufacturing false evidence we will sever all ties with you and/or your group immediately.

We will request that you remove our graphic and/or links from your website, and any other form of affiliation, and we will rescind all benefits gained through PSICAN as soon as prudent to our directors.

BREACHING ANY OF THE ABOVE WILL LEAD TO AUTOMATIC DISMISSAL FROM PSICAN.

Before moving on, allow us also to point out some things to would-be affiliates/members that they should also be aware of...

A} Although media attention can be a positive for a group or organization, PSICAN is always cautious about how we and our study are presented... and if the directors or five existing members of PSICAN complain about an individual or group doing more media than might be normally warranted, that individual or group might be expelled from being a PSICAN affiliate.

We really hate to say this, because 99% of the people reading this knows it does not apply to them, but a few people get involved with our studies because they are hoping beyond hope to "be on TV" or "in the paper" or the like... and some people, this is the ONLY reason they are here... so, to be honest, we do wish to safeguard all of us from having someone as a representative of this group who's ONLY interested in being in the media assuming a position within the group. When media requests come to PSICAN that originate from any location, we will do our best to send them to the people that are there... and again, we do understand that a certain amount of media can and is a good thing to get one's name "out there", but we do want to avoid members who are only "media interested".

B} Some people assume they will join our groups and information, leads, and basically investigation opportunities will suddenly flood in and they will be busy doing incredible and amazing work. Sadly, this is most likely not true... and we do expect our people to be "self starters".

If you're joining our group because you expect us to hand you the keys to the haunted house, plan a cemetery "stomp", pack you a tent for a Sasquatch expedition, and give you the passcard to the secret military base with the saucers in it while discussing what Elvis' ghost said with our best psychic... you're in the wrong place. It can be months before any good opportunities arrive... or days... or hours... but there's no guarantees. You will still probably need to "make things happen" by self-starting some work. We will do what we can to help and promote you, but really can't promise more than that.

C} For various and sundry reasons, your affiliation to our group can be dissolved in one of three ways... One is if both current directors (Matthew James Didier and Susan St Clair) make the decision to sever ties... the second is if five current PSICAN investigators/researchers request that your affiliation be stripped... the third is by breaching any of the rules above.

Again, this seems a touch "heavy", but it may not have anything to do with you, the reader of this... but may help protect you in the future.

D} There are NO fees to be a part of the PSICAN groups as an affiliate/member or in any other capacity.

Some good news at last... but yes, there are no applicable fees involved.

So, after reading through all that... if you feel you're ready to join PSICAN in any way shape or form, click to go to the next page below... clicking to do so WILL be considered you agreeing with all the statements above in regards to PSICAN and it's members and affiliates...

Paranormal research "...is beset by True Believers ('They must be, therefore they are!') and True Unbelievers ('They can't be, therefore they aren't!') Rare are those who pursue evidence wherever it may lead, no matter how the results may square with their cherished hopes and dreams. Ironically, both the TBists and the TUists see themselves as champions of objective analysis and critical thinking, when in fact they are defenders of their respective faiths and, not incidentally, their egos."
